Tasmanian Mental Health Service

Welcome to Tasmanian Mental Health Services - Choice and Medication

As part of the Tasmanian Health Service, Statewide Mental Health Services works in collaboration with consumers to enable them to be partners in their own health care, promoting autonomy and recovery. This includes providing information about medications that enable consumers, their family and supports to discuss treatment options with health professionals and make informed decisions about care. Information provided must be reliable, easy to understand and presented in a format that is appropriate for the individual.

The Choice and Medication – Tasmanian Mental Health Services portal provides access to information about medication used in the treatment of mental illness in a variety of formats and is available for consumers, their families and supports and all health professionals from  Statewide Mental Health Services.

This includes information in a standard and shortened versions, in large print, and with pictures to explain key components. It also includes information in different languages. The information provided includes how the medication works, usual doses, how long it takes to work and how long to take medication for.

The information contained on the Choice and Medication website does not replace approved consumer medicines information leaflets or information provided by doctors and service pharmacists but can be used as a prompt to promote discussion between consumers, their families, doctors and other clinicians about medication treatment options.

Resources should be downloaded and printed each time they are required to ensure the most current information is obtained.
